What Your Support Means for Our AWP Community

The act of creating never stops at the surface. Writing can heal, enliven, inspire, and help both writer and reader process the many experiences of life.

To produce exceptional writing, writers and writing programs need resources and networks. AWP's services and programs provide 50,000 writers, students, teachers, editors, publishers, and arts administrators with education, advocacy, support, and community.

Your gift to AWP will help us continue to foster a literary landscape that is as varied, diverse, and vibrant as North America itself. Sustain the future of the literary arts by helping us help writers of today and tomorrow.

In 1967, a small group of writers had a vision to create a meaningful community of creative writers and writing teachers at a time when there were very few writing programs in the United States. A shoebox that contained the names of every creative writing teacher in the country, written out on 3x5-inch index cards, was the origin of what is now AWP.

This has been a year of change for AWP. Help us return to our roots and and focus on community as a fully independent entity for the first time in our over-fifty-year history.

Thank you for your donation to AWP.

AWP invites support from individuals, institutions, and corporate partners.

Giving vs. Joining

AWP members receive many services and benefits. While membership is the bedrock of our organization, individual gifts help us grow new initiatives, support programs like the Writer to Writer Mentorship Program, and build robust endowments that support the AWP Award Series and future conference scholarships.

If you are already a member, please consider a gift in support of AWP. Let’s be visionary together.

AWP is recognized by the IRS as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Donations to AWP are tax deductible to the full extent of the law. To learn more about AWP's fundraising goals, please review our most recent annual report, available on the right.
